Re:
Deadman Creek Timber Sale Project Comments
Dear
Supervisor Brazell:
The Colville Community Forestry Coalition
is once again quite pleased with the new relationship we have established with
the US Forest Service in the Colville National Forest. We thank you and your staff for coming
to and participating in our meeting on October 6, 2003. We accomplished two important tasks at
that meeting.
First,
and the formal purpose of this letter, is to provide you with our comments on
the Deadman Creek Timber Sale Project.
The Coalition Board voted to provide you with the following resolution: The Coalition shall submit
the modifications to the Deadman Creek Timber Sales Project requesting
further modification of the preferred Alternative D as detailed on the
mylar overlay entitled: Colville Coalition Proposal; and including
proposed additional treatment units not currently contained in the preferred
alternative. We enclose with this
letter the actual mylar of Alternative D with our proposed changes drawn upon
it.
We
trust that you realize the effort that has gone into the creation of this
compromise alternative. We believe
that in the future the Coalition will be able to provide critical expertise at
an earlier moment in the planning and permitting of projects and we are looking
forward to working with you and your staff in that regards.
Second,
the Coalition was pleased with the movement forward on the Burnt Valley fuels
reduction categorical exclusion process.
We will be meeting with your staff on October 29, 2003 to review maps
and documents and to make a site visit.
We
are pleased to be working cooperatively with the Colville National Forest.
Sincerely,
Lloyd McGee
President – Colville Coalition
